Embracing Your Inner Wicked
Go see the movie "Wicked" (Bonus Post)
On Thanksgiving, we decided to see the movie “Wicked.” The day was already filled with gratitude and love, but the experience of seeing such an inspiring film together was the icing on the cake. It wasn’t just another musical, no, it was a deeply empowering encounter for my husband and I. The story’s themes of defying expectations, embracing authenticity, and finding courage in the face of adversity resonated with us on a personal level. If you have a chance, I encourage you to see it.
In the world of Wicked, we learn that being different isn’t a flaw—it’s a superpower. Elphaba’s journey is a testament to the beauty of individuality, the strength of conviction, and the courage it takes to defy the expectations placed upon us. When others judge her, misunderstand her, or even fear her, she doesn’t shrink—she grows, she rises, and she flies.
Her story reminds us that:
The labels the world places on us don’t define us.
The courage to stand alone often leads to the greatest transformations.
True freedom comes when we embrace who we are, flaws and all.
And let’s not forget Glinda, who represents a different kind of growth—the realization that success, beauty, and popularity mean little without authenticity. Her journey reminds us to dig deeper, to be more than what’s on the surface, and to choose kindness over vanity.
Wicked empowers us with these lessons:
It’s okay to challenge the status quo. True leaders are often misunderstood.
Forgiveness and friendship have the power to heal the deepest wounds.
Sometimes, the only way to rise is to “defy gravity”—to leave behind fear, limitations, people and the need for approval.
To everyone who has ever felt different, outcast, or “too much”—you are not too much; you are just enough. The world may not understand you, but that doesn’t mean you’re wrong. It means you’re brave enough to carve your own path.
So take a moment today to stand tall in your truth. Celebrate the quirks, the scars, the dreams that others can’t see. Be the person who defies the odds, challenges the norms, and stands firm in their purpose.
The people who were afraid of Elphaba’s power crafted a narrative that wasn’t true. She wasn’t the wicked witch of the West. Her personal struggles, societal rejection and desire to fight for justice caused her to be misunderstood. Elphaba wasn’t wicked as many believed, she was a magical work of art who was framed (by those who recognized her power) because she refused to be controlled.
When we embrace our “wickedness,” we discover our magic.
Fly high. Dream boldly. And remember, no one can pull you down when you’re committed to defying gravity.
Wicked moved us in ways we hadn’t anticipated. By the time the credits rolled, we were both filled with a sense of awe and renewal. Wicked didn’t just entertain us; it challenged us to think, feel, and believe more deeply. Leaving the theater we felt spiritually uplifted and emotionally full.
